The forest escape you’ve been looking for, an off-grid cabin near Saint John.
If you have been quietly fantasizing about a weekend where you can connect with the forest without worrying about your next notification, this is your sign. La Belle Cabane is an Indigenous-owned retreat on the Kingston Peninsula, where you can sink into relaxation at our thermal spa pods or connect with the New Brunswick forest at our off grid cabins (or host your community or wedding at the Mingoin Den!)
Let me walk you through what a weekend out here actually looks like, and what “off-grid” really means before you pack the car.
So what does off-grid actually mean here?
As you get closer to La Belle Cabane the drive takes you deeper and deeper into the forest. We have a big sign by our entrance in case you’ve lost service. You park amongst the trees and walk through small trails to find our reception. In the spa, you can still get a bit of service (we have WIFI at reception), but our cabins are a true immersive forest experience. It is peaceful, unplugged, and designed for diving deeper into yourself.
Our cozy 108 square foot cabin features a loft and a double bed, a wood-burning stove to keep you warm, a kitchenette, solar lighting for when the sun goes down, and a propane BBQ for cooking. We leave you fresh water, battery lanterns, and a cooler. We also have ice and firewood for sale on site for your convenience. A space equipped to help you #findfreedomintheforest.
The first hour can feel strange if you are used to a screen in your hand at all times. By hour three, your journal is open, your shoulders are less tight and you’re thinking about a nice walk with the afternoon sun.
How far is La Belle Cabane?
Closer than you think. We are about 35 minutes from Saint John, and an hour and thirty minutes away from Fredericton and Moncton (give us a call if you’re wondering the best directions to take). You do not need to take a week off work or fly anywhere to get properly off the grid. You can leave the city after lunch and be sitting by a fire in the woods before dinner. You can always take the scenic shortcut by taking the Gondola Point Ferry from Quispamsis to Kingston.
Far enough to feel like another world, close enough that “I need a break” can turn into an actual break by the weekend.
What can you do in our off-grid cabin near Saint John?
We designed the cabins as a space to unplug and heal within the forest. We encourage you to fill your soul and be creative. Take pictures, write on your journal, or explore our luscious trails. You can also find a few board games and books in your cabin and we often find that less screens = more opportunities to connect with each other or yourself.
You can roast marshmallows over a nice campfire. Spend a slow morning with a coffee and a book and watch the light move through the trees. And when you are ready to go deeper, our forest thermal spa is right here, with private sauna pods, a cold plunge, a hot tub, and the only halotherapy salt room in the region. For those looking to go deeper you can add on breathwork sessions, our stargazing package or join us for an event at The Minogin Den, our new event space (that includes venue rentals) that opened June 2026.

Some people fill the weekend. Some people do almost nothing and call it the best decision they have made all year. Both are correct.
What to pack for a cabin with no outlets
A little planning makes the whole thing feel effortless, so here is what we would throw in the bag. Layers, because the woods get cool once the sun drops, even in summer, real food you can cook on the BBQ or the stove, snacks, a refillable water bottle, and a headlamp or flashlight, even though we leave you lanterns. Don’t forget good shoes for the trails and slippers or cozy socks for the cabin. Cozy additions include a book, a journal, or space on your camera whatever helps you slow down and of course, a swimsuit if you are booking the spa.
What you can leave at home: your laptop, your work brain, and any guilt about being unreachable for a weekend; because we all deserve a break.
Is a weekend off the grid actually worth it?
When the notifications stop and there is nowhere to be, you can let go and open yourself up to that it is safe to rest. People sleep deeper out here. They talk to each other more. They remember what their own thoughts sound like without a feed running underneath.
You do not have to be a hardcore outdoors person to love it. You just have to be a little bit tired of being always on. Our off-grid cabin is near Saint John, being less than an hour away from amenities.
Come see what we built
Our cabins book up fast through the warm months, especially on weekends, and throughout fall and winter (for a cozy escape) so if a couple of unplugged days in the woods sounds like the exact thing you have been needing, do not wait too long to book your escape.
